Simple Photo Rename information
I got sick of downloading my pictures from my phone and getting weird names for the files so I wrote this program to allow the files in one folder to be copied to another folder and change the names at the same time.
For example a file downloaded from the camera was given a name IMG_3018.jpg
After running this program the new file name could be
UK_2019_01_31_Wales_IMG_3018.jpg
or
UK_2019_01_31_Wales.jpg
or
UK_2019_01_31_3018.jpg
or
2019_01_31_Wales_IMG_3018.jpg
plus a few more variations
The date inserted into the file name can be the Date_Taken, Date_Created or Date_Modified depending on your selection at run time.
This will also work on non photo files.
- Select download button below to download the .zip file containing the program and save it. As with all downloads use your anti virus program to check its security. This was checked and was OK at time of placing on the web site. If the Help button does not work after the install close and reopen the program and the help will work.
- Download and install the program. Once downloaded double click on the .zip install file and run the .msi file. This will install the program. It does need to change the registry so you may get a warning. Override and continue and the program will be installed and loaded. If security gives warnings override these to install.
How to Use the program
Once loaded as per the instructions above
- Select the folder where the files are to be converted are located
- Select the folder where the new files with the new names are to be created
- Nominate the files to be renamed ie *.* default but you could enter M*.jpg etc.
- Select the date to be used
- Enter a prefix for the files if you want eg UK will add UK_ to the beginning of the file names
- Check the box if you want the original file name as part of the new file name
- Use the Grid to nominate date ranges in the format yyyymmdd and then enter the name you want included in the files name ie London, Paris, Venice etc
- Select the button Create renamed files and a progress bar will be displayed at the bottom of the form so you van see your progress.
Good luck and hope this helps with those pesky photo names
